Indian rosewood and Engelmann spruce guitar. Used, from 1999. $3,500
This is a beautiful sounding, well played in instrument. The bracing pattern for the top is the same as I use today. Actually, I haven't changed anything in my top design in almost twenty years. I love the sound of my instruments, and want to offer a consistent product, and so have not made any changes. This guitar exhibits all the qualities that I want. It has a beautiful focused voice with great sustain and volume.
The reason I am selling this guitar at this price is because the finish is poor. It has been significantly scratched on the top, mostly under the first string and behind the bridge during string changes. There is a kind of opaqueness to the finish overall as well. I'm not sure what the source of that is. The guitar photographs beautifully on the top (the lighting masks the scratches) but you can see the blotchiness on the back. I suppose I could refinish it, but refinishing is a mountain of work and would increase the price accordingly. There is also darkening on the back of the neck in the first few positions which you can see in the photos. You can't feel it when playing the instrument. Make me an offer!
